FinalsiteU 2018 | Highlights from Team Vidigami
June 21, 2018 | By Bill Miles, CEO at Vidigami
Another year, another great turnout at FinalSite University! This year, myself and our latest Vidigami Pro Drew Millikin head over to the swanky Lansdowne Resort and Spa in Leesburg, Virginia, about a one-hour drive outside Washington DC. Despite the frantic weather, it was a packed 2-days – full of learning, teaching, great conversations and lots of fun! Here’s a summary of our highlights.
Jon Moser, Finalsite’s Founder, kicked off FSU with a great keynote speech encouraging attendees to make their schools more human through authentic storytelling and social media. We can’t agree more on how crucial this is becoming for schools as media trends evolve. Jon also emphasized on how we should always consider both the parent and student journeys when building an inbound marketing strategy for your school. After wrapping up with the keynotes, the sessions swung into action. I attended an informative session lead by Bill Stites of Montclair Kimberley Academy on how to sustain your blog through crowdsourcing – which we are always up to learn about! They shared some innovative ways to encourage students and teachers to blog, create content for the website, social media and the school’s marketing publications.
Later that afternoon, Drew and I held a Vidigami User Forum to review recent changes in the platform and discuss the future of collaborative media management with several Vidigami schools. As with the ATLIS session earlier this year, there was lots of energy and ideas. We can’t wait to explore them with the team and see how we can make Vidigami amazing. What’s more, we got some great interviews with our schools, including La Salle College High School, The Bear Creek School, and The Regis School of the Sacred Heart. Check out Our Schools page to watch them all! The first day ended with a hike through the mosquitos by the river or golfing in the thunderstorms. Intense, but everyone loved it!
The dynamic Lesley Coe, Director of Technology at Cardinal Gibbons High School (and Vidigami Pro) held back-to-back sessions on Day 2, first with Zaw Lyn, Associate Director of Communications at Maret School and then with myself. With all the great questions and discussions, we probably only covered about a third of our planned presentation, Leveraging Media for Communications, Community Engagement and Education. Regardless, great session. And with some wine tasting to boot, not a bad Day 2!
If you didn’t get a chance to stop by for the session, you can download the PDF slides here.
Through events like FSU and countless other year-round initiatives held by the leading school website provider, including workshops, webinars, and more, Finalsite aims to help its clients become the best that they can be. This conference is an incredible resource for schools to learn from the Finalsite Pros, Partners, and above all, from each other, through hands-on experience and one-on-one support from peers in the EdTech space. As always, the Finalsite team is incredibly warm, friendly, and they sure know how to keep us entertained (and fed!). We’re talking mounds of bacon for breakfast, veggie pizza on french bread for lunch and tons of chips all day long. We enjoyed every minute, and spending time with Jon, Rob, Alex, Tim, Jackie and many more from the Finalsite Team. Thanks for a great event, and hope to see everyone again next year!
